Bonnie Cochrane, R.N., M.Sc., CHE

Bonnie is a passionate healthcare leader whose focus is quality, innovation and patient experience. She is a registered nurse with a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) and Six Sigma Black Belt designation with more than 40 years of healthcare experience. From early clinical experiences delivering patient care as a critical care nurse, her progressive career has expanded to involve population-level quality outcome improvements. After years of leading large, transformational change initiatives, Bonnie’s current focus is on creating and sustaining health system improvements, thereby making healthcare better for employees, physicians and patients.

Professional Experience

In her role as a healthcare executive and coach, through implementing fundamentals for alignment, accountability and standard leader work, Bonnie has supported executive teams and leaders to achieve improvements in employee and physician engagement, patient quality, safety and overall experience. Prior to joining Huron | Studer Group in 2013, Bonnie was responsible for strategic provincial information systems in Newfoundland, including telehealth, picture archiving and communication system (PACS), the pharmacy network and other components of the integrated electronic health record (iEHR). Bonnie also spent many years working in population health outcomes research after her clinical career in critical care and cardiology research. She brings a rich, diverse background and perspective.

  • Recipient of Huron’s Leadership Impact Award 2018
  • Recipient of Huron | Studer Group’s Pillar award for excellence in 2015, 2016 and 2018 for her positive impact in supporting the achievement of partner results and in developing new partnership
  • Founding member and co-chair of Canada’s Health Informatics Association (now Digital Health Canada), the Canadian Organization for Advancement of Computers in Health (COACH) Pan-Canadian Electronic Health Record (EHR) Governance Community of Interest
  • Led a Pan-Canadian team in the execution of population health continuous quality improvement (CQI) projects, demonstrating an effective model of patient health management, which included broad partnerships with iterative measurement, intervention and feedback; this served as the foundation for the publication Patients First: Closing the Healthcare Gap in Canada (2004).
