Carol Manson McLeod, B.Comm, R.N., M.Sc.N, C.E.C

Carol has over 30 years of experience in healthcare working in different provinces in Canada and in the United Kingdom. During Carol’s career, she has­ held progressive roles from front line leadership to senior leadership. Carol has always led with the goal of pursuing quality, fueled by her work as a peer surveyor for over 10 years with Accreditation Canada. Her background as a peer surveyor enabled Carol to gain experience across the healthcare continuum. Recently, she completed the Certified Executive Coach program furthering her values of discovery, caring and learning.

Professional Experience

Carol has worked primarily in acute care facilities providing leadership in many clinical areas. Of note in her career, she led two significant capital projects, including strategic planning, design and operationalization of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and Brandon Regional Hospital expansion. Throughout these experiences, Carol has become comfortable leading change and engaging all stakeholders to achieve excellence in patient care. Before joining Studer Group she served as executive director in Edmonton, Alberta, providing leadership to 12 emergency departments and 13 medical units (380 beds), including acute, non-acute and rehabilitation units.

Signature Engagements

  • Led the Cardiac Sciences Program in Edmonton, Alberta, providing comprehensive care for both the pediatric and adult populations across the continuum, including all aspects of heart health
  • Implemented LEAN process improvement throughout various programs and departments
  • Trusted advisor and leader to executive leadership of the emergency program for accountable care – strategy, execution, communications and success metrics
  • Member of a team developing a comprehensive service model to care for patients with addictions, using a harm reduction strategy in association with 20+ stakeholders both within and outside healthcare
  • Member of the team to change the culture within an 800-bed hospital; to be the difference between care and caring
  • Accreditation Surveyor for 10 years – surveying organizations across the continuum, nationally and internationally
