Broward Health North

  • Location: Deerfield Beach, FL
  • Award: Evidence-Based Leadership Healthcare Organization of the Month
  • Awarded: May 2014

Broward Health North (BHN) is an award winning, 409-bed community hospital and level II trauma center located in sunny South Florida.  As part of Broward Health, one of the ten largest health systems in the nation, BHN has been serving the healthcare needs of northern Broward County since 1961.  We are excited to be embarking on a $70million renovation project that will result in a new emergency department, expanded operating rooms, new central energy plant and building façade.

The BHN Emergency Department and Adult Level II Trauma Center are staffed by trauma trained, nationally certified nurses and 100% of the physicians are board certified in emergency medicine.  BHN is one of only three Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Broward County. The Comprehensive Stroke Center is Joint Commission Certified, has been awarded the American Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus Award for the past seven years and was  first in Florida to attain Joint Commission Certification for Stroke Rehabilitation. BHN has 15 Nurses who are specialty certified in neuroscience and stroke nursing.  This certification formally recognizes the attainment and demonstration of a unique body of knowledge necessary for the practice of neuroscience and stroke nursing.  During our 2014 Primary Stroke Program re-certification survey, the Joint Commission reviewer recognized BHN as one of only a few hospitals nationally who have obtained this status.

The BHN Neurological Institute features the Memory Disorder Center and the first and only Joint Commission Certified Alzheimer’s disease program in the nation.  BHN has a robust Joint Replacement Center and was the first hospital in south Florida to offer anterior hip replacement using the hana® table as well as the first to attain Joint Commission Certification for hip and knee replacement. The experienced surgeons at BHN performed more hip replacement surgeries than any other hospital in Florida in 2012.

Other services include:

  • First and only Joint Commission Certified Spine Care Center in South Florida
  • Comprehensive Cancer Center accredited by ACOS (American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer)
