Hawai‘i Pacific Health is a nonprofit health care system that serves the state as Hawaii's largest health care provider. Formed in 2001 with the merger of three longtime leaders in health care, we have a combined history of 250 years of service to the people of Hawai‘i and the Pacific Region. Our network includes over 5,500 employees and four hospitals: Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, Kapi‘olani Medical Center at Pali Momi, Straub Clinic & Hospital, and Wilcox Memorial Hospital; 44 outpatient clinics and service sites; and affiliations with more than 1,300 physicians. As a network, our hospitals and clinics lead the state in the areas of women's health, pediatric care, cardiovascular services, cancer care and bone and joint services. We were an early adopter of the electronic medical record and now rank among the top 3.8 percent of hospitals nationwide in EMR adoption with system-wide implementation that allows our hospitals and physicians to offer integrated, coordinated care to patients throughout the state.

Patients who undergo cardiovascular surgery at Straub are assured a post-operative infection rate that is among the lowest in the country for the past 6 years.

Our intensive care units have reduced risk of infections, and as a system we have succeeded in nearly eliminating infections related to ventilator use and bloodstream infections related to central bloodstream catheters.

Kapi‘olani's Newborn Special Care Unit cares for the smallest and sickest babies in Hawai'i and the Pacific Region. Thanks to excellent teamwork, rates of complications from being born too early are much lower than national benchmarks.

Kapi‘olani's women's centers are in the top 5% nationally, awarded the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.

Finance

Despite economic and reimbursement challenges, Hawai‘i Pacific Health's focused and strategic efforts have led to a stronger financial standing. Moody's Investors Service recently upgraded our bond rating from a B to an A(3), noting our ability to maintain this financial stability. Focused management allows us to focus on improving quality, investing in technology, and pursuing education and development of our staff and physicians.
Growth

Several new joint ventures with physicians and other health care organizations further expand services and access to care for patients and communities, particularly those on the neighbor islands.

Partnerships such as those with the Cancer Center of Hawai‘i and the University of Hawai‘i's Comprehensive Cancer Center enable patients to receive the latest cancer treatments here at home in the islands.
