Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital is a 35-bed, community-based, not-for-profit hospital in Northwest Ohio that prides itself on its mission of extending the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities and bringing help to people in need, especially the poor, dying and underserved. Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital’s 14-bed Emergency Care Center cares for over 20,000 patients annually. The community-based emergency department makes services such as behavioral health and neurovascular care available through telemedicine, allowing more patients to remain close to home for their care.
Daily huddles with frontline staff, support service leaders and hospital administration have been integral in keeping everyone aware of metrics and the daily challenges that the emergency department faces. Huddles facilitate collaboration among all participants and after working diligently, the team now consistently performs better than the national average for door to provider time, ESI 4 and 5 length of stay, and left without being seen.
Since partnering with the Studer Group in February 2018, the Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital Emergency Care Center’s overall rating of care through Press Ganey has improved from the 12th percentile to the 72nd percentile. The Studer Group principles of rounding on patients, using key words at key times, and documenting whiteboards have become standard practice. Staff have embraced and incorporated these principles, allowing them to provide more personal, compassionate care to their patients.
