St. Luke's University Hospital - Bethlehem Campus

  • Location: Bethlehem, PA
  • Award: Emergency Department of the Quarter
  • Awarded: July 2018

St. Luke’s University Health Network has grown from a single hospital into a diverse healthcare system employing over 14,000 people, including a medical staff of more than 1,400 physicians, and providing services at 10 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient sites in the greater Lehigh Valley and beyond. St. Luke’s service area includes 10 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Dedicated to advancing health education, the network also operates the nation’s oldest school of nursing and 28 graduate medical, education programs and is considered a major teaching hospital – the only one in its region. Four years in a row (and five years overall), including 2018, St. Luke’s earned IBM/Watson Health’s (formerly Truven Health Analytics’) 100 Top Major Teaching Hospital and 50 Top Cardiovascular Program designations. It is also a multi-year recipient of the Most Wired award recognizing the breadth of St. Luke’s information technology applications such as electronic medical records, telehealth, online scheduling and pricing information.

Additionally, we received a four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS), a Consumer Reports award and a number of other quality awards.

St. Luke’s deliberate investment in technology is a key factor in our growth and stability.  We recognize that patients demand flexibility, not just access to brick and mortar facilities. We have adapted our services by investing in and introducing new technology.  We continue to be agile, engaging in an innovative fashion for access and care through our app, video visits, extended physician office hours and online appointment scheduling.

St. Luke’s use of technology continues to be the gold standard with one of the most successful implementations of EPIC electronic medical records in our nation, according to officials from EPIC.

St. Luke’s also continues its long-standing commitment to the region by educating the future generation of physicians and nurses. In partnership with Temple University, we are proud to operate the only school of medicine in the greater Lehigh Valley and have the honor of running the nation’s oldest continuously operating school of nursing, established in 1884. St. Luke’s is also an active provider of continuing medical education for physicians and other healthcare professionals in the Lehigh Valley, offering more than 500 post-graduate programs annually.

As always, low cost, price transparency and quality continue to be important pillars to our continued growth and success. Through St. Luke’s PriceChecker website, patients can proactively access easy-to-understand pricing options to help them make informed healthcare decisions.  We believe we are the first full-service hospital system in the nation to offer this level of price transparency.

St. Luke’s continues to grow and prosper. The future is very bright, and our best days are in front of us. We will continue to offer new services and expand the depth and breadth of our services to ensure that our network meets the needs of current and future patients.
