St. Rita’s Medical Center

  • Location: Lima, Ohio
  • Award: Studer Group Healthcare Organization of the Month
  • Awarded: July 2016

Since 1918, St. Rita’s Health Partners has been providing quality healthcare to the people of Lima and West Central Ohio. More people prefer St. Rita's for medical care than any other health care system in the 10-county region we serve.

Our comprehensive high-quality medical services include The Henry & Beverly Hawk Vascular & Heart Center at St. Rita's, St. Rita's Orthopaedic Care Center, Level II Trauma and emergency care, cancer treatment, women's health, mother/baby, pediatrics, sports medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health services, homecare and hospice. St. Rita’s Health Partners comprises a 425 bed hospital, two emergency departments, three urgent cares and almost 30 family and specialty practice offices.

As a member of Mercy Health, the largest health system in Ohio and one of the largest health systems in the United States, it is our Mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus by improving the health of our communities. In 2015, St. Rita’s Health Partners invested $40 million in community benefit into the communities where we provide care, most of it targeted to people who are poor and under-served. Together with more than 3,000 employees, physicians and volunteers, we are fulfilling our promise, providing area residents with outstanding health and wellness services and improving the health of the communities we serve.

Lead by the executive team, St. Rita’s Health Partners began engaging with the Studer Group in March of 2015 with the goal of ensuring that during these times of rapidly changing health care delivery, we maintained our patient-centered operations, as measured by patient experience scores.

Thus far, our Journey to Excellence is focusing on evidence-based leadership framework to truly focus our interdisciplinary teams on several key initiatives such as the use of AIDET®, Key Words at Key Times and Hourly Rounding®. Leader rounding has also become a critical step to ensuring that these elements are hard-wired and provide structured opportunities for feedback, questions, and conversations about the 'why'.

The commitment to this Journey has paid off. In just one year, St. Rita’s has seen an increase of 4% increase in the overall rating of care for the hospital.

Our continued success on the journey and our commitment to the process is a reflection of our commitment to care for those who need us most—mind, body and spirit. Our community expects only the best from St. Rita’s, and it is our intention to always live up to those expectations.
