Uvalde Memorial Hospital began implementing best practices from the Studer Group in 2008. Employee rounding was the first initiative in our journey to excellence. This motivated employees and assured them that the Board of Directors, administration, and directors were dedicated to make this the best place to work and the safest place to receive care and treatment. Employees felt empowered to be patient advocates.
In 2012, we were awarded the Press Ganey Distinctive Workplace Award for having employee engagement scores above the 95th percentile more than 2 years in a row.
AIDET®, Key Words, Hourly Rounding℠, and Bedside shift report were the Studer Group tools that made the biggest difference in our patient satisfaction scores.
Employees reducing the patient’s anxiety and educating them about the care they are receiving builds great relationships between patients and their care givers. Our patient satisfaction scores have risen from the bottom quartile to the 99th percentile!
