West Kendall Baptist Hospital opened in April 2011 as Miami-Dade County’s first brand-new hospital in more than 35 years. It is part of Baptist Health South Florida, the largest faith-based, not-for-profit healthcare organization in the region. The award-winning hospital provides high-quality care and an outstanding patient experience to the Miami suburb of West Kendall, one of South Florida's fastest-growing communities.
Foundation for Success
The four-story, 282,000-square-foot hospital houses 133 licensed, acute-care inpatient beds. The facility has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and is built to withstand a Category 5 (180 mph) hurricane. The warm and welcoming campus, which is home to the county’s first public-private park and vita course, has twice been ranked among the 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the country.
Innovating Healthcare
West Kendall Baptist Hospital’s expert staff of 500 physicians and approximately 1,300 employees provides inpatient care for adult medical and surgical services, including a separate critical care unit. Critical care is remotely monitored by Baptist Health’s nationally renowned, high-tech tele-ICU, ensuring patients received the best care possible.
The Emergency Department, serving both adults and children, provides more than 70,000 visits annually. Surgical services are provided in six operating rooms, with room for future expansion. Endoscopy suites and diagnostic and imaging facilities also are available. The Beautiful Beginnings program for expectant mothers includes private labor and delivery suites and dedicated C-section operating rooms within the labor and delivery unit.

West Kendall Baptist Hospital supports a vision of West Kendall as a convenient central hub where residents can live, work and play. Through its Healthy West Kendall initiative, the hospital and its partners encourage the area’s nearly 400,000 residents to achieve the goal of becoming the Healthiest Community in Florida. Many hospital initiatives support this coalition goal:
- Visitors to the Healthy Hub — a health screening kiosk located in the main lobby — receive free health screenings, health risk assessments, personalized patient education, referrals for follow-up primary care and information about free community resources for healthy living.
- With West Kendall Baptist Hospital leading the efforts, West Kendall was selected as one of five communities in the U.S. to participate in Communities of Excellence 2026 – a learning collaborative that uses the Baldrige Performance Excellence Framework to enhance overall community performance.

West Kendall Baptist Hospital is a leader in quality, safety and patient experience. In 2014, West Kendall Baptist Hospital achieved Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superior patient care.
Baptist Health designated West Kendall Baptist Hospital as its academic facility. The Family Medicine Center, located in the medical office building adjacent to the hospital, serves as the primary training ground for an accredited Family Medicine residency program developed in partnership with Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. The program is successfully addressing the area’s shortage of primary care physicians.
